The prawn (shrimp) pot was originally designed to produce to be both a rugged and efficient catching system but also be quick and easy to maintain.
The intended target is the Common Prawn Palaemon serratus which can be easily damaged once captured. The pot has been designed to have no sharp corners or joins where the prawn can get a leg trapped.
If the pot is severely damaged in a storm all you do is replace the damaged panels instead of the endless patching of mesh that has happened in the past.
Both the prawn (shrimp) pot and the D shape pot have been designed with conservation in mind. The prawn pot has an 8 mm mesh and the D shape has a 14 mm mesh and also has the capability of having escape holes fitted.
Both of these pots are made by Poly Pot Creels under licence from Panel Pot Products ltd.
